Design Your Journey.
Tell us the site, period or question you want to explore. We use your dates, interests and available time to develop a private archaeological journey through the physical layers of Rome. We check access for your dates; if your preferred site is closed or unavailable, we can suggest a relevant alternative. Submitting the form is an enquiry, not a confirmed booking. Selected private archaeological journeys start from €800 per group. Journeys involving restricted access or special arrangements are quoted individually.
Share your dates, group size and archaeological interests. We’ll check which places can be accessed and prepare a private route proposal with a clear quote for you to review.
Begin with what you want to understand.
You may already know the archaeological site you want to visit. You may be interested in Roman domestic life, ancient religion, funerary archaeology, water systems, early Christianity or the changing ground level of Rome.
You can also begin with a broader question: how did ancient buildings become incorporated into the later city? Why are some Roman structures now several metres below today's streets? How can different periods be read within the same area?
That is enough for us to begin developing the journey.
Follow a subject. Or connect several.
These are broad archaeological themes rather than pre-packaged tours. A private journey may concentrate on one or connect several when the chronology, geography and access make sense together.
Roman Domestic Life
Houses, decorated rooms, bathing spaces and residential architecture that preserve evidence of how Romans lived.
Sacred & Funerary Rome
Sanctuaries, cult spaces, tombs, crypts and archaeological contexts connected with belief, ritual and commemoration.
Urban Stratigraphy
Earlier streets, former ground levels and ancient structures incorporated into later buildings and the contemporary city.
Water & Engineering
Cisterns, hydraulic systems, infrastructure and construction that reveal the practical mechanisms behind the ancient city.
The atlas can become your starting point.
Underground Rome documents archaeological places across the city individually. If one of them has caught your attention, send us its name.
We can consider whether it is accessible on your date, how much time it requires and which other archaeological contexts can be combined with it coherently.

From your brief to a coherent route.
We understand the request.
We begin with your date, group size, available time, interests and any places you have already selected.
We examine what works together.
Geography, chronology, current access and practical timing determine which archaeological contexts can form a coherent journey.
The journey takes shape.
Once the direction is established, we can define the itinerary, specialist guiding and any practical services required.
Access · Context · Archaeology
The final route depends on what is actually possible.
Archaeological sites across Rome operate under very different conditions. Some have regular admission, others require reservations, operate only on selected dates or admit very small groups.
Restoration work, institutional requirements and temporary closures can also change what is possible. For that reason, a requested place is treated as a starting point until its access has been checked for the relevant date.
Limited, private or unusual access is proposed only when it can genuinely be arranged for the requested date.
Research first. Then experience the place.
Before sending an enquiry, you can explore the Places atlas or read the Field Notes to identify the archaeological subjects that interest you most.
